Here is a composite image showing six similar molds. Notice the fourth mold from the left...the handles, hinge pin and overall look is very similar to those surrounding it; however, it casts a 40 caliber paper patch bullet and has nippers on the end. The nippers on the end of the mold are like those seen with Sharps molds. The surrounding molds have the caliber markings on the sprue cutters such 40-330, 40-285, 45 Govt, 44 W, 38-300. The molds are believed to be products of BGI Co. Sometimes, identical molds also have markings for S.D. & G or Marlin. The fourth mold from the left has M.F.A. Co stamped on the side of one block with a large font stamp as shown near the bottom of the image. Virtually identical stampings rarely may be seen on more typical Sharps pattern molds. This mold is thought to be an early BGI Co product made for Marlin; likely for an early Ballard rifle.
