Starr 44 revolver molds are said to be unmarked. It is true they are unmarked as to caliber or manufacturer, but many have small letters stamped into the side of the mold block. Here is a composite image showing seven such molds; six bear small letters. "H", "W", "B" and "C" are all represented with three of the molds marked "C". This small sample suggests that "C" may be the most common marking, but the evidence is not deemed strong enough to conclude that with certainty. One of the molds does not have any markings. Interestingly, five of the six tools bear the stamp on the "left" side; whereas the one marked "W" is on the "right". The significance of the markings is not known. Of course similar Starr molds were also made in other calibers. A comparison of three similar molds in 36, 44, and 54 caliber can be seen here.
