One infrequently finds Ideal tools which are not easily categorized with prevailing classifications. For example, here are two Ideal tools; they are about medium sized tools, and both have adjustable seating chambers, bullet sizers and recappers. Neither has a bullet cavity cut into the block-like extensions which protrude where most Ideal #6/#4 tools have bullet molds. The top tool is marked "38 50 R" and has the capper on the end of the blocks. The lower tool is marked "38 50 M" and has the capper adjacent to the bullet sizer.

This view shows a comparison of the top of the tools and some detail of one end. The lower right panel shows the inside of the block-like extension. Similar tools have been observed in 38-45 Bullard, but they are not too common. What is the "correct" model designation for tools like these? These seem to be early variations of Ideal #3 tools. Here is an example in 38-45 Bullard which Phil Wahl thinks is a first variation tool.
