
Of course, Marlin had a long and intimate association with Ideal, and even owned Ideal for a time. Tools manufactured during Marlins' ownership of Ideal are marked as Marlin products. Here is an example of a large frame Ideal #6 tool so marked; Marlin marked tools are fairly commonly seen with #3, #4 and #6 most frequently encountered.

Less frequently seen are Marlin marked Ideal tools made well before Ideal was acquired by Marlin. Here are two examples of early Ideal molds marked "M.F.A. Co". These have no anchoring pins through the wooden handles as later variants do. The handles have distinctive iron tips which secure them in place. These examples are for the 38-55 and 32-40 calibers.
