Here is a beautiful example of an Axel Peterson mold. Peterson was born in 1859 in Sweden, but immigrated to the United States early in his life. Eventually, Peterson made his way to Denver where he worked for many years, first for John P. Lower, then for George Schoyen, and, following the death of Schoyen in 1916, on his own. He is regarded as a member of the small group of premier rifle makers (Pope, Schoyen, Zischang) in operation around the turn of the century. Many custom mold makers elected to use bronze or brass inserts in which to cherry the casting chamber.
