Here is an interesting and unusual Pope mold. The mold is not marked, but the architecture is unmistakably that of a Pope product. This particular example has a thick iron plate attached to the bottom cutoff. One can only speculate why the thick plate was added...maybe to drain heat away from the base of the bullet faster?...maybe to strengthen the base plate in an effort to produce bullets with more precise bases?...who knows, but it makes for an interesting tool. Note the characteristic "WAX" markings around the lubrication points, a very characteristic feature of most Pope molds.
