
Here is an example of the rare brass Sharps gang mold. This six cavity mold is marked "Sharps Rifle Manufg Co"..."Hartford Conn." Also, if you look closely, you can just make out a "U.S." marking at the bottom of the stamped area. These molds predated the iron ones and, according to Frank Sellers, were superceded by the iron ones in April 1861. The only other marking on this mold is a distinct inspector stamp "H" on the top surface of the "right" handle as viewed from above. Although these molds were made for US Government use, a very rare example without US markings has been reported.
