Four Whitney molds

Here are four Whitney bullet molds. Two are 45 caliber and two are 44 caliber. The specimen on the right hand side shows some original black japanned finish. Here is an image of another 44-77 Whitney mold. The markings on it are distorted by abuse, however it appears to be for a 380 grain bullet.

Most of the Whitney molds seen are for paper patched bullets; however, here is a picture of an unmarked 45 caliber mold for a round nosed bullet with grease grooves.   And here is another mold marked for the 44 CAL. 77 GR; this one is also for a grooved bullet and is very unusual in that it only uses two grease grooves.

All four of the molds pictured together above are for paper patch bullets. Look carefully at the cross-sectional profile of the mold blocks; typically Whitney molds have a more elliptical shape than UMC or USCC examples.
