Here are two of the earlier Winchester iron frame molds marked for sale by Schoverling, Daly and Gales (S.D. & G); these molds are marked for 38-250 and 40-285 bullets. It is interesting that the molds are NOT marked with any Winchester markings. S.D. & G. was a New York hardware and sporting goods store in operation from about 1878 until well after the turn of the century. Both Winchester and BGI made molds for S.D. & G.; they were sold bearing the S.D. & G. stamp, but not the stamp of the maker. By contracting for production of the molds, S.D. & G. could offer quality products carrying their name with little investment in capital or resources. Here are two examples of S.D. & G marked BGI molds.   And..one more example of a 40-285 BGI mold  which could have been cut with the same cherry used to make the Winchester mold of that caliber.
