Here is a pretty typical 1874/1882 Winchester tool in a seldom seen caliber. The "44 American" or "44 S&W American" was an early cartridge used in some early Smith and Wesson revolvers. It was introduced around 1869, used pretty extensively in the 1870's, and discontinued around 1940.
